Incoming Indiana U. Student Dies After Falling Down Stairs at Party
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — An Indiana University freshman died Saturday after falling down a flight of stairs at a party.
Incoming student Rachel Fiege, 19, fell down stairs between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Some of Fiege’s friends monitored her on and off, but they contacted police at nearly 8 a.m. when they found the girl unresponsive, TheIndyChannel.com reports.
When police arrived at the scene, Fiege was unconscious and not breathing. After police administered first aid, medics took Fiege to the hospital in critical condition. When it was clear she was brain dead, Fiege was taken off life support.
Fiege had recently moved into the residence hall on campus that week and would have started her first classes this week.
Authorities are investing the incident.
