Incoming College Freshmen Are Drinking Less

A poll conducted by an organization called Outside the Classroom found that since 2006, the percentage of incoming college freshmen who do not consume alcohol increased from 38 to 62 percent.

According to Outside the Classroom, the decrease in freshmen drinkers can be attributed to the economy or the proliferation of social media, USA Today reports. CEO Brandon Busteed told the news source that students are beginning to better understand the consequences of Web sites like Facebook, in that pictures of alcohol use can affect their job prospects.  

According to another study conducted by the University of Michigan, the percentage of high school seniors would did not drink in the past 30 days was up from 54.7 percent in 2006 to 58.8 percent in 2010.
