PHOENIX — The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have threatened to pull funding from Arizona State Hospital following an inspection that revealed that the mental health facility had numerous deficiencies affecting patient care and safety.
Some of the deficiencies noted in a Nov. 12 letter to the hospital include dangerous staffing shortages and inadequate care of at-risk patients who require 24-hour monitoring. Other problems cited include ASH’s failure to prevent six patients from harming themselves, as well as the facility’s inability to maintain adequate treatment records, ABC 15 reports.
For its part, the Arizona Department of Health Services does not expect to lose any federal funding, as it has already taken steps to correct the issues, the Associated Press reports.
