Published: June 18, 2007

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A married couple identified only as John and Jane Doe have sued Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) on the grounds of lax employee security.

The lawsuit states that on July 19, 2005, an unknown attacker brutally raped Jane Doe when she entered a public restroom to fill a coffee pot. According to court papers, in addition to undergoing emotional and physical injuries, Jane Doe has not yet been able to return to work, resulting in lost income.

Her husband is also suing for loss of consortium with his wife.

The lawsuit, assigned to Chief Kanawha Circuit Judge Charles E. King, claims CAMC neglected to take steps to prevent the assault and is demanding unspecified punitive and compensatory damages.
