Illinois State Police Defend Decision Not to Frisk Man Killed at Chicago Hospital
They say they were focused on a man arrested for DUI, not passenger.
A decision not to frisk a Chicago man, who pulled a gun on hospital staff before being shot and killed Nov. 3, is being defended by Illinois State Police. Christopher Anderson and his daughter were passengers in a car where the driver was arrested for drunk driving. They were taken to Highland Park Hospital for treatment.
Illinois State Police said they didn’t do a criminal background check on Anderson, because he was the passenger and already in the ambulance with his daughter, according to a CBS-Chicago report. Police said there they were focusing on the driver and the DUI arrest in a statement.
At the hospital, Anderson allegedly was brandishing a handgun. Police said after he ignored requests to put the gun down, an officer shot and killed him.
