CARBONDALE, Ill. – Students, faculty and staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) will be issued Dawg Tags, random identification numbers, after Memorial Day.
The Dawg Tags will replace the use of Social Security numbers and will protect everyone from possible identity theft. In addition, the university is also implementing a new student information system in fall 2009.
Social Security numbers will still be used for financial aid and payroll. Additionally, graduates who have attended the university within the past 17 years will also receive a Dawg Tag in order to keep past records compatible with the system.
