Updated 12:40 p.m.. (Pacific), Oct. 29: The following links were issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) this morning. They provide information on how East Coast residents can protect themselves and prepare for Hurricane Sandy, which is a Category 1 storm that is now expected to strike near Cape May, N.J., between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.. (Eastern) this evening.
Storm surge is expected to well exceed the levels of last year’s Hurricane Irene. Additionally, storm surge should be highest in the late afternoon and early evening. The storm has been intensifying, with wind speeds as high as 90 mpg. Experts are warning that this hurricane will most likely be historic. It is slow moving, covering more than 900 square miles, and as many as 10 million residents could lose power as a result of the storm.
