WASHINGTON, D.C. – Hundreds of crimes have been solved thanks to the Metro’s central command center for all video surveillance footage.
Metro Transit Police Chief Ron Pavlik says the Security Operations Control Center has “probably been one of the greatest” technology advancements the Metro Transit Police has made since he’s been there.
The control center opened this year and includes constant live monitoring of security cameras, radio communications, security and fire alarms and chemical detection systems, according to WTOP.
Pavlik says the control center hasn’t stopped crime, but helped officers investigate incidents.
“It really gives us the ability to confirm an incident, and just to throw some numbers out there: Through video analysis (this year), we’ve made over 500 adult arrests, over 200 cases were closed and over 100 cases were unfounded,” he says.
Metro security cameras are now considered an “integral part” of its security at rail stations and on buses, according to Metro Board documents.
