Houston, Texas – A city-wide boil water notice in Houston that went into effect on Sunday has prompted K-12 and college campuses in the area to cancel Monday’s classes.
The districts and institutions of higher education that have closed include Houston ISD, Aldine ISD, Pasadena ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Houston Community College, Lone Star College North (Greenspoint and Victory campuses only), San Jacinto College – North Campus, Southwest Schools, Varnett Public School, YES Prep, Texas Serenity Academy, and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic School, reports Click2Houston.com and KHOU11.
The boil water notice, which affects about 2.2 million people in the Houston area, was issued on Sunday after a power outage caused low pressure at a local water purification plant, reports Click2Houston. They mayor’s office said the boil water notice might not be lifted until Monday night or Tuesday morning. The City of Bellaire also issued a boil water notice out of an abundance of caution.
To ensure the water residents use for drinking, cooking, bathing, and brushing their teeth is safe, they should boil the water for 3 minutes before consumption. They should not use refrigerator chilled water lines or consume ice from automatic ice machines.
