Hospital Security Guard Shot in Spectrum Health Parking Lot

A security guard was shot after he questioned a man who was rifling through vehicles in a Spectrum Health parking structure.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Spectrum Health security guard was shot late Sunday near one of the hospital’s Butterworth campus parking structures.

The security guard, whose name has not been released, was walking through the parking structure to check for safety concerns when he encountered a man who was stealing items out of vehicles, MLive.com reports.

When the security guard questioned the man, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired one shot before fleeing on foot.

The guard suffered a non-life-threatening wound and has since been treated and released from the hospital.
