SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. — A man was arrested on Jan. 24 after he posed as a doctor at Thomas Memorial Hospital. While in the facility, he left bandaged stuffed animals in patients’ rooms and, in one case, left cotton balls on a patient’s genitals.
Stephen Mahnkan, a former veterinarian, was arrested after a patient awoke to find cotton balls on his genitals and notes about castration scattered around his room, My Fox Orlando reports. Mahnkan was spotted wandering the corridors of the hospital in a white lab coat, carrying what appeared to be X-rays of animals.
Mahnkan told police he was a physician’s assistant, but they quickly discovered that he did not work in the hospital. He was arrested and charged with battery, trespassing, larceny and obstructing an officer.
Mahnkan’s license to practice veterinary medicine was revoked in 2009 after it was alleged that he performed surgery while under the influence.
