Hospital Locks Down After Admitting Patient with Gunshot Wound

UKIAH, Calif. — The Ukiah Valley Medical Center (UVMC) was locked down Dec. 29 when an 18-year-old male entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound. The man said he had been shot outside the hospital.

The victim initially told police that he met a friend outside the hospital who was carrying a shotgun. The gun discharged into his hand while he was looking at it, the Ukiah Daily Journal reports.

During their investigation, police discovered that a nearby house had been burglarized by a suspect matching the victim’s description of his friend. The homeowners were present during the incident, but were unharmed.

The victim was treated for his wound, which was not life-threatening.
