MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio—Hospital officials at Hillcrest are planning to bolster security after a man shot himself in the ambulance bay just days after a murder suicide at the facility.
Albert Milstein, 77, shot and killed his wife Dorothy—a patient at the hospital—before turning the gun on himself on July 9, according to newsnet5.com. No one else was injured during the shooting, according to police.
A few days later, a man in his 80s shot himself twice with a .45 semi-automatic pistol in front of the emergency room exit. The man is in critical, but stable condition.
Police believe the latter incident was a copycat of the former shooting.
Hospital officials have added more security throughout the hospital for the next few days. As it stands, security officers monitor the hospital 24 hours a day, and off-duty officers work in the emergency room. Signs are posted throughout the facility banning guns.
