Hospital Apologizes to Man Beaten by Security Officers

Published: February 2, 2011

ALBERTA, Canada — Alberta Health Services (AHS) has issued an apology to a man who was beaten outside his younger sister’s hospital room by hospital security guards. Bronson Crowchild – who is aboriginal – believes the attack was based on racial profiling.

Crowchild was in the doorway of his terminally ill sibling’s hospital room when he was asked to leave by security guards. He refused, swore and spat on the ground, CTV reports. The guards then tackled him, forcing him to the ground.

Crowchild says the guards might have thought he was loitering. He was later arrested and charged with assault.

AHS issued an apology letter to Crowchild’s family. It is unclear whether the charges against him will be dropped. A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
