HORNELL, N.Y. – Voters turned down a $75 million capital project for the school district, which would have provided updates to security and technology, as well as building repairs. Now, the school board is trying to figure out what should be its next step.
It seems most likely the board will propose a slimmed down version of the capital project, one that won’t cost the taxpayers any money, but instead take in $52 million from state aid. This new proposal would focus on technology and security upgrades.
The original proposal did get a majority vote, with a 719-685 vote in favor. However, the proposal needed 60 percent of voter approval to pass.
