Windsor Locks, Connecticut – The father of a student was charged last week for calling in hoax bomb threats to two schools after he was told he couldn’t park in a campus fire lane.
Police say Dahari Martin, 26, called in the bomb threats to North Street School at 10:44 a.m. and South Elementary School at 11:23 a.m. on February 17, reports the Daily Voice. In response to the threats, both campuses were evacuated and classes were cancelled for the day.
Authorities believe Martin called in the threats because earlier that day, he was told by police officers that when waiting to pick up his child from school, he had to move his car from the fire lane at North Street Elementary to an authorized parking spot, reports CTInsider. Police say there was an ongoing dispute between Martin and school officials about illegal parking on campus. On the day when the bomb threats were made, he allegedly caused a disturbance at the campus but was not arrested.
Martin’s actions at North Street Elementary school before the bomb threats quickly led investigators to identify him as a suspect in the case. He was identified as the caller who made the hoax bomb threats through phone subpoenas, interviews, and other law enforcement sources, reports NBC Connecticut.
Martin turned himself in on March 14 and faces two counts of terrorism, falsely reporting an incident, threats, and breach of peace. He’s being held on $200,000 bail.
