JASPER, Tenn. — Police have arrested an assistant football coach at Marion County High School for allegedly vandalizing the school’s football field house.
Investigators believe Michael Schmitt vandalized the high school’s field house, pretending to be the South Pittsburg Pirates, a rival football team, in an effort to inspire his players before a game against their foes.
On Nov. 1, Schmitt allegedly used South Pittsburg’s school colors to write vulgarities on the field house, as well as derogatory names toward Marion coaches and the players, Times Free Press reports.
The damage totaled several thousand dollars, according to Marion High School administrators. Schmitt now faces charges of vandalism of $1,000 to $10,000.
