ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Following months of debate, the Henderson State University Board of Trustees voted to opt out on an Arkansas state measure that allows faculty and staff to carry concealed handguns on campus.
As many as 229 people voted on May 10, with 56% stating that they don’t want concealed carry on campus, ArkansasMatters.com reports. The vote was in agreement with the Arkansas Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, which advised against allowing faculty and staff to carry concealed weapons.
HSU joins the University of Central Arkansas, Harding University, Hendrix College, Eastern Arkansas Community College and Arkansas Community College in opting out of the measure. The University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University have not announced their decisions.
