The International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Foundation is once again conducting a crime survey of hospitals and healthcare systems in the United States and Canada, and it is encouraging North American healthcare security executives to participate.

According to the IAHSS, the survey data not only provide an understanding of the frequency and nature of crimes affecting healthcare environments, but also identifies broader industry trends and establishes benchmarks.

All responses will be kept strictly confidential. IAHSS is asking that survey participants follow these guidelines:

  • The survey should be completed by the highest-ranking security professional or their designee.
  • Only one survey should be completed for each hospital or healthcare system.
  • If possible, those completing the survey should be responsible for maintaining incident management records.
  • Review crime definitions carefully. The survey uses U.S. federal crime definitions that may vary from state and province definitions.
