Healthcare Facilities Not Ready for Federal HIPAA Audit
A survey conducted by HCPro, Inc. found that most healthcare organizations are not prepared for a privacy and security audit by federal regulators.
The Office for Civil Rights engaged a contractor earlier this year to audit entities and associations at random to determine how many would be HIPAA-compliant by Dec. 31, 2012, HealthLeaders Media reports. HCPro’s survey results show that only 17% of respondents are fully prepared for the audit.
The audits are expected to produce corrective action plans for facilities regarding HIPAA compliance.
