Health Officials Urge H1N1 Shots Despite End of Pandemic

Published: August 11, 2010

WASHINGTON—The H1N1 flu pandemic—known as swine flu—is over, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The virus is still present; however, it is no longer dominant and appears to be spreading along with other flu viruses, WHO officials said Aug. 10. It is believed that many people have grown immune to the disease because they have been infected. Others have received the H1N1 vaccination.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the vaccine for the disease and three other viruses will be in the 2010-2011 flu shot.

Health officials continue to urge people to get vaccinated, especially young people and pregnant women, who suffered greatly when the pandemic first arose.
