Health Experts Keep Eye on Pandemic Potential of 2 Viruses

The World Health Organization is closely monitoring H7N9, which is a new strain of bird flu, and the coronavirus related to SARS, called MERS-CoV.

Both could cause a pandemic if they mutate into a form that can easily spread between humans, reports the Associated Press.

H7N9 is believed to have originated in China while the other virus has been linked to the Middle East. Although the WHO has not recommended that people stop travelling to those areas, it is advising people to practice good personal hygiene.

MERS-CoV has spread between hospital patients, reports NPR.
