A hazing ritual involving the pouring of hot sauce on pledges’ genitals has led the University of Tennessee (UT) to suspend the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity for two years. The hazing also involved paddling, reports WBIR.
The school began investigating the organization after it received a call from a concerned parent.
Less than 10 people are members of the fraternity, which is off-campus.
UT is the latest in a string of institutions of higher education that have suspended or even banned some or all of its Greek organizations.
Earlier this month, the University of Connecticut banned two sororities and one fraternity for their alleged hazing rituals, while Cornell University has revoked recognition of the Chi Psi fraternity. Amherst has banned participation in all Greek organizations.
