Officials at the Moreno Valley Unified School District want to enhance security procedures, including security patrols, after three teachers were robbed at gunpoint at Box Springs Elementary school, reports PE.com.

The incident occurred on Aug. 19, around 6:50 a.m., before students arrived on campus. Police said a man entered the teacher’s lounge from a side or rear entrance. He then demanded that three female teachers give him their purses.

Once the teachers complied, the suspect ran off campus carrying a small handgun. After a custodian called them, Moreno Valley police officers arrived at the scene within minutes; however, the suspect had already fled the scene. No one was injured during the incident.

The three teachers were send home for the day following the incident. Additionally, the school district’s crisis management counseling team was called to the campus.
