A 23-year-old Pécs Technical University student opened fire on his classroom on Nov. 26, wounding three and killing one. According to The Budapest Times, this is the first school shooting in Hungary.

The unidentified attacker allegedly left the classroom agitated during a lecture and returned with a 9mm handgun. He allegedly shot and killed a 19-year-old classmate. A second student, 19, was critically injured with five gunshot wounds to his abdomen. The 36-year-old class instructor and a 54-year-old cleaning lady were also struck but did not have life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the classroom but later surrendered without resistance to the police.

The man was described by students and faculty as a loner who had difficulty interacting with his fellow students, reports The Budapest Times. Initial questioning of the suspect revealed he may have had difficulty fitting in and had a recent falling out with a student in his study group.
