RENO, Nev. – One person was killed and two others were wounded Tuesday by a gunman who opened fire at Renown Regional Medical Center. The suspect then shot and killed himself.
The incident occurred on the third floor of the building at the Center for Advanced Medicine, and it is estimated that about 100 people were there at the time of the shooting, reports the Los Angeles Times. The center is on the hospital campus but is not affiliated with Renown Regional Medical Center. Authorities do not believe the shooting was targeted, but they don’t believe it was random either.
One of the critically wounded individuals is a female doctor, reports the Republic. None of the victims’ identities have been released.
The medical center was placed on lockdown, and police entered the facility three to five minutes later.
The University of Nevada School of Medicine has offices where the shooting took place, but all faculty, staff and students were reported to be safe.
