The University of Florida is being sued by a gun rights group that claims the school’s ban breaks both state and federal laws.
Right now the university does not allow students to store guns in their dormitories. Florida Carry Inc. believes dorms qualify as homes and should be afforded second amendment protection, reports Reuters.
School officials say there are abiding by state laws.
In December, a Florida appeals court ruled that colleges and universities have no power to regulate guns on campus.

In a 12-3 decision, 1st District Court of Appeals ruled that universities have the power to restrict lawful conduct, such as smoking, on campus, but the power to regulate firearms strictly belongs to the Legislature.
