Greenhouse Fire at U. of Maryland Causes $6M Damage

BALTIMORE—A commercial greenhouse on the University of Maryland’s Eastern Shore campus was consumed by fire on Sunday. Damage is estimated to total $6 million.

The fire was started by the spontaneous combustion of peat moss, according to a statement released by the campus. No one was injured in the blaze, but two employees were working in a building adjacent to the greenhouse when the fire started, reports Examiner.com

The greenhouse was leased to U.S. Orchid, and the interior appears to be a total loss.
