VENTURA, Calif. — The Ventura Office of Education should serve as a central location for compiling school safety information, according to a grand jury report issued on June 13.
An investigation was launched after a fatal bus accident in Missouri, the Ventura County Star reports. Jury members found that in Ventura County, districts do not compile information the same way, making it difficult to measure school bus safety data objectively. Also, that information was not posted on the districts’ Web sites.
The request for the districts to compile the information does not come with resources to help officials do that, according to Stan Mantooth, county superintendent of schools.
