TAYLOR, Mich. — Police are investigating an incident where a 12-year-old student at Sixth Grade Academy brought $20,000 to school in her backpack on Monday.

School officials learned that the girl, whose name has not been released, had the money because she was giving it to her friend. The student told authorities that she received the money the night before from another child who lives across the street from her, The Detroit News reports.

Authorities retrieved all the money and returned it back to the girl’s neighbors.
