Girl, 14, Leaves Newborn in Trash Can at an Arizona Middle School

PHOENIX – A school administrator at Osborn Middle School discovered a newborn baby with its umbilical cord still attached in a trash can Sept. 16.

The baby boy was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. Officials said the newborn appeared to have been carried to term and was in excellent condition.

Police said a 14-year-old student gave birth to the child in the administration building. The Phoenix Fire Department discovered her at a nearby apartment. She was taken to a hospital in good condition.

The child is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
