ATLANTA, Ga. — A newly approved special purpose local option sales tax for education is expected to earn the Fulton County School System $3.2 million, which will allow the district to make many safety and security upgrades over the next five years.
The district expects to upgrade visitor identification systems and playgrounds, as well as allow for additional security cameras, building alterations and external defibrillators, Neighborhood Newspapers reports. Previously, the district installed a SchoolMessenger system.
The safety issues that will be addressed with the funding include playground safety, discipline and bullying, pandemic illnesses and evacuation planning, according to Safety and Security Director Mark Muma.
