JONESBORO, Ga. — In response to the reduction of law enforcement presence district-wide, Clayton County Public Schools has hired a new director of safety and security.
Clarence Cox III, a former assistant police chief at Morehouse College, will manage the district’s new safety and security department, which includes non-sworn security officers, sown school resource officers (SROs) and department vehicles, Clayton News Daily reports.
Working with a $2.7 million budget, Cox, who has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, plans to pursue grant funding to help offset costs for personnel, equipment and training. Within the next two years, he hopes to gain state and national accreditation for the department.
