Funeral, Memorial Fund Announced For Slain Hospital Security Guard
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Funeral services will be held Aug. 24 for the Montgomery Regional Hospital security guard who was fatally shot by an inmate being treated in the center’s emergency room.
Derrick McFarland, 33, was shot and killed Aug. 20 as he attempted to assist a Blacksburg Police Department deputy who had been overpowered by William Charles Morva, 24.
Services for McFarland are open to the public and will take place at Horne Funeral Home, 1300 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg, Va. The funeral will start at 4 p.m.
McFarland is survived by his wife and two children. A memorial fund has been established for the family, and donations can be mailed to any First National Bank or to the First National Bank located at 601 N. Main St., Blacksburg, Va.
