Approximately 500 people from National Jewish Health were forced to evacuate the campus March 9 when hazardous chemicals were inadvertently mixed.
According to the Associated Press, the incident began when staff were cleaning the pool. Chlorine and hydrochloric acid were spilled or combined by accident.
The fumes resulted in three buildings being evacuated, although the main hospital was not affected. Most of the evacuees were hospital staff members, but 45 patients were transferred to other health facilities for treatment of nausea and respiratory irritation.
