French Ex-teacher Surrenders

PARIS – A former teacher held 21 students and two assistants hostage in France March 9. After several hours, the captives were released unharmed and the suspect surrendered to police.

The 33-year-old man was depressed about losing his job two years ago and demanded he be reinstated. The gun he was carrying was later determined to be a fake. Early on in the drama, he had put it down and removed the cartridge.
