Even as colleges across the country take measures to eliminate the on-campus consumption of Four Loko, an alcoholic energy drink, sales of the beverage are on the rise, according to AOL News.
Four Loko, which was recently linked to the hospitalization of nine Central Washington University (CWU) students, is sometimes called “blackout in a can.”
The latest Four Loko-related incident occurred last month at the University of Rhode Island when 30 students became ill or injured during a campus concert, says AOL News. The beverage was quickly banned by administrators.
While Phusion Products, the maker of Four Loko, stressed that college alcohol abuse cannot be solved through the banning of one product, warnings against the drink have been issued at Harvard, Boston College and Northeastern.
