On July 21 a federal judge ruled that a former University of Northern Illinois campus police officer experienced no violation of his civil rights in a case where he’s accused of raping a student.
Andrew Rifkin, 27, accused three other university police officers of not properly handling his case. But a judge found no validity in Rifkin’s claims that the officers withheld information that shows his relationship with the student was consensual, according to sj-r.com.
U.S. District Judge Philip Reinhard found that the evidence Rifkin was referring to had been disclosed and could be used in his upcoming trial. Rifkin’s lawsuit was against former NIU Police Chief Donald Grady and NIU investigators Kartik Ramakrishnan and Jason John.
A student at the university is accusing Rifkin of sexually assaulting her in one of the school’s apartment buildings when she was a freshman.
Grady was fired following the allegations against Rifkin. Grady and his lawyer are currently considering filing a wrongful termination lawsuit of their own against the university.
