NEW YORK — As many as 32 former Yeshiva University students have filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against the university, Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy-Yeshiva University High School for Boys, two rabbis and various members of the Board of Trustees for Yeshiva University.
The lawsuit claims that former Yeshiva University High School Principal, Rabbi George Finkelstein, along with other perpetrators, sexually abused the plaintiffs while they were students at the school. They alleged that Finkelstein used his power as an administrator to keep victims silent, and lowered their grades, which affected their future academic careers, according to Examiner.com.
The plaintiffs maintain that from 1962-1995, students filed numerous reports against Finkelstein, as well as reports of sexual abuse by two other faculty members; however, the reports were not investigated.
Rabbi Norman Lamm, who is a defendant in the lawsuit, admitted last December that he was aware of the allegations of sexual misconduct involving school staff members, but chose to handle the allegations privately rather than contacting police. He resigned from his position July 1.
