The former director of University of California Davis’ Violence Prevention Program is being investigated for allegedly funneling university money into a private account and using it for personal expenses. The woman was also accused of inflating campus crime statistics, including sexual offenses by 140%.
Jennifer Beeman, 52, is being investigated for a “secret” checking account for a campus program called Take Back the Night, reports The Sacramento Bee. According to the report, Beeman withdrew $5,400 for personal use from January 2002 to March 2009. Investigators found an additional $12,000 of university funds in the account.
Investigators are also examining whether the $540,000 that Beeman paid to a Bay Area woman over a seven-year period was legitimate. According to The Sacramento Bee, the former employee had authorized $25,000 in federal grant funds to the woman in exchange for a campus anti-violence guide that was allegedly never completed.
Beeman was placed on administrative leave following the initial probe into her travel expenses in 2008. She retired from the university in October 2009 after allegations surfaced over the inflated campus crime statistics.
