Former Teacher Confesses to Molesting More Than 20 Girls

ALABASTER, Ala. — A former schoolteacher facing sexual abuse allegations has now been charged with molesting a second female student.

Daniel Acker was arrested Jan. 5 on three counts of sexual abuse involving a student before he retired in 2009, the Associated Press reports. He was charged Jan. 6 with an additional count of first-degree sexual abuse involving another former student.

Police said Acker confessed to molesting more than 20 girls. He taught fourth grade at three schools and drove buses in the Shelby County school system for 25 years. During his tenure in education, he was voted “teacher of the year.”
