A nurse at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey is accused of sexually assaulting two patients in the emergency room waiting area of the hospital.
Wilber Hernandez, 29, of Perth Amboy, was arrested on Thursday and charged with four counts of sexual misconduct.
Hernandez worked as a registered nurse at the hospital starting July 25, 2016. He has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the charges, according to Patch.com.
He was also employed by Saint Peter’s University Hospital and Maxim Healthcare Services. He has been suspended from those positions as well.
Hernandez was charged with one count of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree and lewdness from an October 13, 2016 incident involving a 49-year-old patient.
He was also charged with one count of sexual assault in the second degree and one count of criminal sexual assault in the fourth degree from a June 29 incident involving a 74-year-old patient.
Hernandez had previously worked as a registered nurse at Hackensack Regional Medical Center, Jersey City Medical Hospital, and Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office.
“We are fully committed to providing a safe environment for our patients, visitors and staff,” hospital spokesperson Peter Haigney said in a statement to TAPinto New Brunswick. “Our administration and staff are working in full cooperation with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.”
Haigney declined to further comment citing an active police investigation and the alleged victims’ privacy.
Hernandez is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick pending a detention hearing.
The investigation is ongoing.
