LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A former school security officer in Colorado was found guilty of sexually assaulting a student following a four-day trial.

Rubel “Tim” Martinez, 68, was employed by Jefferson County (Jeffco) Public Schools from 2006 to 2022 and worked as a security officer at both Lakewood High and Jefferson Jr./Sr. High School, CBS reports. He also ran an after-school clown club at both schools and worked as a pastor at Breakthrough Ministries in Dacono.

Martinez was arrested in Aug. 2024 after a former student reported to police that Martinez repeatedly sexually assaulted her on and off campus when she attended Lakewood High School from 2014 to 2016. At the time of his arrest, Lakewood Police said they believed there may be additional victims and encouraged anyone with information to contact investigators.

Martinez had been free on a $20,000 bond during the investigation and trial. The jury deliberated for less than three hours Friday and found Martinez guilty of a single count of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse, which is a Class 3 felony. He was taken into custody following the verdict and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 9.

Anyone with information about Martinez or his conduct while he was employed by the district is asked to contact Lakewood Police at 303-987-7229.

2 Jeffco Schools Employees Guilty of Child Sex Assault

Martinez’s conviction is the second guilty verdict reached against a former Jeffco employee for sexual assault on a child in less than a week, according to The Golden Transcript.

On Jan. 12, former district psychologist James Chevrier, 38, was found guilty on five felony charges, including sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, unlawful possession of MDMA, possession with intent to distribute ketamine, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor involving alcohol and marijuana.

The charges stem from allegations involving three students at Green Mountain High School and Bear Creek High School. Chevrier was arrested in May 2025 after a Safe2Tell report triggered an investigation by Lakewood Police.

During a July bond hearing, prosecutors alleged Chevrier confined students, exposed them to sexually charged discussions, and made inappropriate physical gestures. He previously worked at Evergreen High School during the 2022-23 school year, and at a school in the Cherry Creek School District during the 2021-22 school year.

The jury acquitted Chevrier of soliciting for child prostitution and attempted sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. His sentencing is scheduled for April 2.
