TAMPA, Fla. – A former University of South Florida professor was sentenced April 14 by a judge to four years and nine months on terrorism conspiracy charges.
In his plea agreement, the former computer engineering professor admitted he supported the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. This was done despite the fact that a jury didn’t convict him of the charges against him. According to the Associated Press, he agreed to the deal to end his family’s suffering and get out of jail sooner.
Sami Al-Arian, 48, will receive credit for the three years and three months he served while awaiting trial.
