AUSTIN, Texas – A former security expert at the University of Texas (UT) is voicing his objection to being fired from the university. He claims the institution did not want to address the security issues he discovered in the school’s laboratories.
The security expert, Harold “Woody” Davis, claims he found badly monitored experiments, undertrained students conducting dangerous experiments and disregard for federal reporting rules.
Campus safety officials, on the other hand, say Davis was fired because he was “disgruntled” and deny any type of security problems in the university’s labs. However, news reports show that the university failed to report 10 lab accidents, including several employees being exposed to the bacteria Shigella.
