Due to the overwhelming amount of flu patients, U.S. emergency rooms have turned away patients for a lack of space.
Chicago’s Northwestern Hospital has reported a 20% increase in flu patients daily. As a result, the hospital was placed on bypass Monday and Tuesday, meaning it asked ambulances to take patients to another location if they could do so safely, ABC News reports. Northwestern was one of eight hospitals to do this.
To accommodate the influx of flu patients, Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township, Pa. set up a tent outside its facility to tend to the overflowing number of flu cases. Meanwhile, a hospital in Ohio has required all patients with the flu to wear masks to protect those not infected.
