Fla. Man Kills College Security Officer in Drunken Crash

Florida College of Integrative Medicine Security Officer James Sensenbaugh died two days after the crash.

An allegedly drunk driver in Florida fatally struck a college security officer with his SUV on Jan. 19.

Investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol say Luis Lopez Garduno hit Officer James Sensenbaugh in Orange County, Florida, on Tuesday night before fleeing the scene, according to wesh.com.

Officer Sensenbaugh, who was patrolling the Florida College of Integrative Medicine in his golf cart at the time of the crash, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died Jan. 21. Florida State Troopers said they saw Garduno’s flipped SUV at the scene then found Garduno hiding under a building on campus shortly after.

Garduno told troopers he was on his way home from the El Torito Bar off Orange Blossom Trail and submitted to a blood test. Garduno told troopers he could not remember the collision.

Garduno has been charged with hit-and-run, DUI and driving without a license causing serious injury. Those charges could be upgraded now that Sensenbaugh has died.
