Fla. Hospital Sued for Alleged Sexual Assault Incident

PLANTATION, Fla. — A former Westside Regional Medical Center patient has filed a lawsuit against the medical facility, claiming that a security guard sexually assaulted her when she received treatment at the facility.

During her stay at the hospital, Tali Duke was under the Baker Act, meaning that a security guard was with her at all times. She alleges that for five days, the security guard assigned to monitor her sexually assaulted her 15 times while she was under strong medication and unable to defend herself, WSVN.com reports.

Duke says she’s suing Westside Regional because it failed to establish and implement policies and procedures to prevent sexual assault. She seeks $5 million from the hospital, which is the only defendant named in the lawsuit. The security guard was investigated for his actions but never charged.
