Fitchburg State U. Grieves Over Interim Police Chief’s Death

FITCHBURG, Mass. — The Fitchburg State University community is mourning the loss of its interim campus police chief, who died Jan. 25.

Chief Michael Marcil, 51, spent nearly 30 years working for the university. Last month, he was appointed to the position of interim chief after Chief James Hamel retired, Telegram & Gazette reports.

Marcil died unexpectedly in his home. Officials have not released a cause of death.

Lt. Benjamin McDonald will now serve as the university’s interim chief.
