Fire Damages Taylor University Dormitory

FORT WAYNE, Ind., A fire in Schultz Hall at Taylor University was discovered by the campus safety officer on duty Oct. 8. All 22 residents in the hall at the time were evacuated safely, and their parents were informed of the situation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Residents were not allowed back into the building immediately after the fire, but a school staff member and insurance adjuster retrieved some of the students’ personal belongings.

Two churches and several area residents offered to provide alternative accommodations. Additionally, the students received vouchers from the Red Cross to buy clothes and other necessities, and the university will make emergency funds available. The campus bookstore will also provide replacement textbooks.
